From October 2025, the EU’s new Entry/Exit System began replacing passport stamps with biometric checks and stricter tracking of time spent in Europe.

That already means longer border checks, more scrutiny, and potential delays at places like Dover and the Eurotunnel.

The rollout isn’t smooth and won’t fully settle until April 2026. And looking ahead, UK travellers will also need ETIAS authorisation from late 2026.
